Unless you're a big fan of either Christian films or the old TV show"Grizzly Adams"the name Charles Sellier Jr. may not exactly jump out at you.
Though he didn't dabble in our genre much, he did give us one of the single most controversial horror films of all time, and it's with a heavy heart that we report he is no longer with us.
On Monday, the director of 1984 slasher phenomenonSilent Night, Deadly Night, Charles Sellier Jr. was found dead in his home near Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. Sources close to Sellier declined to specify the cause of death. He was 67.
Sellier was best known for creating the book and television versions of"Grizzly Adams". After 1984, he left the horror genre behind and went on to create dozens of family friendly TV shows, many of which had deeply religious themes. You have to admit though, given the wildfire of controversySilent Night, Deadly Nightsparked he really went out with a bang!
We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to offer our sincerest condolences to Sellier's friends, family, and constituents. Rest in peace, kind sir, and thank you for starting a new Christmas tradition for horror fans everywhere.
